Architectural Design & Structural Engineers

Elmstone Design LLP is an Architectural and Engineering Partnership formed in 2010 based on the breadth and depth of the previous experience of the Partners RIBA Chartered Architect, Sean Macmillan and Consultant Structural Engineer, John Sutton; since then Architectural Technologist, Adrian Henretty has joined the team along with Amy Boudewijn in a key supporting role.

All the Partners have a track record for producing cost effective, aesthetically pleasing designs and imaginative solutions to overcome development constraints and construction challenges; together with consistently high standards of service to support client needs. We are a client-focused practice that believes in providing a high level of service throughout the design and construction process.

Whether an extension for a home-owner, a housing estate for a developer or commercial premises for a business we can guide clients from inception to completion.

Sean is a fully qualified Chartered RIBA Architect with a wide range of experience both on large and small projects, from Concept, Planning, Building Regulations and Tendering to on-site inspection and contract administration gained over the past 20 years working in the building design/construction industry including a 130 and 86 unit residential flat development in Guildford and Brighton respectively, as well as smaller bespoke residential and commercial developments across the UK.


John graduated with a degree in Architectural Engineering and has over 20 years construction related experience. He has worked in many structural engineering consultancies in the commercial, retail and residential sectors from refurbishment work in historic buildings to new build multi storey office developments as a Structural Engineer. He also has diverse experience from working for Architectural and Surveying Practices as well as two forays into the Isle of Wight Council’s Planning Department as a Planning Enforcement Officer for new build developments and Listed Buildings.


Adrian joined as a Partner in February 2014 bringing with him specialisms in Building Regulations, Project Management and Health and Safety. Adrian previously works in a multi-disciplinary consultancy where he gained a degree in Architectural Technology and has over 11 years’ experience in residential, commercial and educational projects.


Fran joined as a Director of our sister company Elmstone Engineering Ltd in June 2015. She has a masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southampton and over 10 years’ experience as a Consultant Structural Engineer. She has been involved with a variety of projects including healthcare, commercial, education (primary schools to University campuses), retail, mixed use and private residential schemes.

The Team

Elmstone Design LLP work closely with other reliable experienced consultants and small practices to resource all projects. These include Planning Consultants, Architectural Technicians, Party Wall, Building and Quantity Surveyors. Elmstone Design LLP is based in the Isle of Wight with our sister company, Elmstone Engineering Ltd based in the Isle of Wight and Southsea.
